Kitasan Black Wins Japan Cup 2016

Kitasan Black led from start to finish to win the $US5.25 million Japan Cup at Tokyo racecourse on Sunday. It was its third group 1 win with previous wins in the Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger) and 2016 Tenno Sho.

Last year’s fifth place getter Sounds of Earth, stormed home for second, with Argentinean horse Cheval Grand in third place. However in the end Kitasan Black had complete control of the race and was never really threatened.

Trainer Hisashi Shimizu was thrilled after the race, winning his 3rd group 1. And super jockey Yutake Take could barely restrain his delight. It was Take’s fourth win in the 36-year-old race after victories on Special Week in 1999, Deep Impact in 2006 and Rose Kingdom in 2010.
